The Best Lightweight Strollers of 2024

We’ve spent hours researching the best lightweight units available on the market. Their ranking takes into account the experience of real-world parents, our rating criteria, and customer reviews.

Delta Children The Clutch Stroller

Best Compact Fold

Consider this model if you need a stroller that will take up minimal space when folded. When collapsed, it’s smaller than a grocery bag. It will easily fit in the trunk of a compact car or a plane’s overhead bin.

Intended for everyday use, this stroller is made of metal and plastic with a fabric seat. It weighs less than 12 pounds and comes with its own travel bag.

This option meets all ASTM and JPMA standards and is suitable for children who weigh up to 50 pounds. It’s available in multiple colors and features double wheels.

What We Like

Plenty of Storage

We love the roomy storage basket located in the undercarriage. It’s a great place to stash your everyday belongings, such as a diaper bag, sweater, or anything else you need quick access to.

Perfect for Travel

This is a travel-friendly model. It’s light and comes with a storage bag. When folded, its dimensions are 15 inches by 5.9 inches by 19.7 inches.

Not only does this stroller fold to be compact, but it also has a small overall footprint. Its slim size makes it easy to use even in crowded places like subways or train stations.

Easy to Maneuver

The double wheels are set closer together, which helps make tight turns and awkward spaces easier to navigate.

Furthermore, this model is comfortable and has suspension through the front wheels. This keeps your little one cozy while also making it more pleasant for you to push and steer.

Safety Features

With a five-point harness, this stroller is safe for children of all ages who weigh under 50 pounds. There are also reflective shoulder pads to make you and your child more visible at night.

This unit is JPMA-certified. It also meets or exceeds the ASTM and CPSC standards that apply to strollers.

What We Don't Like

The Sunshade Isn’t Great

There is a sunshade included with this model. It’s on the shorter side, though, and doesn’t offer a lot of positions. It will protect your little one from the sun, but only when it’s directly overhead.

If you plan to use this for a long time in the sun, consider additional sun protection.

User Experience

My recent experience with the Mountain Buggy Nano Travel Stroller has been nothing short of amazing. Its compact size, easy folding, and compatibility with my Chicco Keyfit 30 infant car seat made it perfect for my trip to California. The only downside was the Clutch Stroller's sunshade, which didn't provide enough coverage, but overall, both strollers were great choices for travel.

Summer Infant 3DLite Convenience Stroller

Best Lightweight Stroller for Infants

Infants need proper support through the head and neck, an angled recline, and an appropriately-sized harness. This lightweight stroller has all of these features. You don’t need to be stuck with a clunky travel system just because you have an infant.

Because of its weight, this can be your go-to stroller for everyday errands.

Multiple recline options, an accessible pocket for a phone or wallet, and a lightweight aluminum frame make for a user-friendly stroller. It folds easily into a compact but long, umbrella-style fold for carrying or for travel.

What We Like

Extra Compact Fold

We love that we can fold this stroller using a single hand because of its handy unfolding and collapsing mechanism and integrated automatic lock.

User-Friendly Add-Ons

This model offers many features that make it attractive to parents. The undercarriage storage area provides plenty of room for blankets, diapers, or purses.

A readily available cup holder also gives the operator the perfect space to set a coffee or water.

Double Wheels

The stroller has double wheels, which makes its maneuverability better. It’s easy to navigate and turns well, even when working in tighter spaces.

The extra surface space provided by the additional wheels also gives the stroller greater stability. This can put your mind at ease when you have your infant on board.

Extra Padding

The seat is designed to be cozy for your little one. Padding is sewn into the seat to make it thicker and give your child more support. There’s also padding through the shoulder straps and where the five-point harness buckles.

What We Don't Like

It’s Not Small

While this stroller is lightweight and can easily be managed with one hand, it’s not as narrow as some other options we’ve listed.

Product Specs

Personal Perspective

I recently purchased this stroller and found it to be lightweight and fairly compact, making it a significant improvement over a full-sized stroller. While it does have some spacious storage underneath and a comfortable, padded handlebar, I wish the canopy could be adjusted more to protect from the sun. The stroller handles well on various terrains, but the cup holder tends to be flimsy and falls off easily.

Joovy Zoom360 Ultralight Stroller

Best Lightweight Jogging Stroller

Need a stroller that can handle a high activity level while giving you and your child an enjoyable experience? This three-wheeled jogging stroller has pneumatic tires and a suspension system that helps absorb shock and impact. This supports your wrists and hands while also giving your child a more pleasant ride.

The front wheel is smaller than the rear wheels, and you can lock it in position when needed.

The seat sits high to give your little one a better view and features recline options to keep them comfortable.

Extra height through the frame makes this model easier to push while running. The three-wheel configuration makes it responsive to nuanced steering.

The stroller is easy to lock in place with just a quick step on the single pedal, which securely locks both the rear wheels to keep your little one safe.

What We Like

It’s Easy to Clean

This unit is designed for outdoor use. It will come into contact with weather and debris, leaving it dirty. Fortunately, the material is sturdy, and it can be cleaned with soap and water.

The fabric is quick-drying and water-repellent. The inner padding won’t retain moisture and resists mold growth.

Great Maneuverability

Oversized wheels and the three-wheel design give this stroller exceptional maneuverability. It’s responsive and easy to steer, which is critical when you’re jogging. We found it very easy to steer with just one hand.

Perfect for Off-Road Use

The large wheels can tackle any surface. Whether you’re using this stroller indoors or off-roading on a trail, the wheels work to absorb shock. This gives your child a nice ride while also making it more usable for you.

It can easily navigate large cracks, gravel, roots, and elevation changes easily. Unlike plastic wheels, there’s no need to worry about damaging or jamming the wheels.

What We Don't Like

Not for Babies Less Than 15 Pounds

Jogging strollers are not recommended for babies who cannot support their head and neck well. Rapidly moving while they’re in a stroller can hurt them.

This unit is designed for children who weigh at least 15 pounds. If your child is younger than 3 months old and hasn’t hit that weight, consider a different option.

Community Feedback

If you're in search of a jogging stroller that's suitable for taller parents and provides a smooth ride for your child, the Joovy Zoom 360 might be a good choice. I appreciated the ease of maneuverability and its ability to handle various terrains, like park trails and snowy sidewalks. The suspension system ensures a comfortable ride for my little one, and it has ample space for my toddler to relax. However, the front wheel sometimes rattles, and the stroller is quite bulky when folded, taking up significant trunk space.

Baby Trend Rocket Lightweight Stroller

Great Choice for a Spare Stroller

This stroller features double wheels and a parent caddy tray to stash drinks and belongings. There’s a large undercarriage storage basket and an adjustable canopy to protect your child from the sun or bad weather.

At just over 13 pounds, it’s lightweight enough to remove and place in the trunk of a car easily. It features a safety harness and seat recline options. It also has a lock that keeps the aluminum frame from collapsing during use.

With a rear foot pedal brake and a compact fold, it’s straightforward to operate. It’s simple to steer and navigate and offers lined handles for user comfort. This model is suitable for children who weigh up to 50 pounds.

What We Like

Easy to Use

It’s a good fit if you’re looking for a straightforward unit that’s easy to figure out. Grandparents or babysitters who may not use strollers often won’t have difficulty opening, closing, or operating it. At the same time, it features nice add-ons that make everyday use more pleasant, like the storage space and caddy.

Dual Wheels

The four sets of double wheels make steering easier. They also improve stability and reduce the likelihood of the stroller tipping over.

The back set of wheels features foot pedal brakes. You may choose to use both for optimal brake performance or only one, which is convenient for short pauses.

Great for Older Children

This stroller stores well and can support up to 50 pounds of weight. It can be a good option for a child who’s mostly outgrown strollers. Also, consider its use as a backup for longer excursions or as a spare.

What We Don't Like

Not Designed for Rough Terrain

If you’re looking for a stroller that can handle uneven terrain and long walks outside, this probably won’t work for you. Although the double wheels are good for stability, they are plastic and don’t handle obstacles well. The wheels are prone to jamming on sticks and pebbles.

First-Hand Impression

Great lightweight stroller with some useful features like the zippered parent pouch and adjustable sunshade. The ride is smooth and it's compact, but the closing mechanism could use some improvement. The basket underneath broke easily on two different strollers, so be cautious if you rely on it for storage. The front wheels sometimes slide sideways, but it might be due to the type of flooring it's being used on.

Mountain Buggy Nano V3 Stroller

Best Lightweight Stroller for Everyday Use

This stroller is lightweight but has many of the amenities needed for daily use. It features a reclining seat, a universal car seat adaptor, and a high-quality sunshade.

It makes a great travel companion as it only weighs 13 pounds and can be folded easily. In fact, it can fit in carry-on luggage for accessibility.

Additional accessories can be purchased separately.

What We Like

Suitable for Everyday Use

We love a lightweight option that still provides a pleasant ride. The padded seat and straps create an interior that will give your little one a cozy seating area.

The sunshade and extra storage in the undercarriage make it practical for regular rides. The entire compact design doesn’t hurt either.

Full Adjustability

The adjustable seat allows you to find a comfortable position for your child. When they need to close their eyes and take a nap, recline the seat to give them a better sleeping position. When their nap is over, raise the seat upright again for needed support.

Compact When Folded

This is a great option for traveling. It folds down into a compact unit that’s small enough to carry with one hand or place in a large book bag. It’s the right size for an overhead compartment on an airplane.

Fun Color Choices

We love how many vibrant and fun colors this unit is available in. If you are using it for traveling, the bright colors can help you instantly recognize it and keep track of it.

What We Don't Like

Canopy Size

The canopy size is not this model’s strong point. It doesn’t offer a great shade for protection for your little ones. Moreover, there isn’t a peekaboo window, just a mesh fabric enough to see your child when the seat is reclined.

Product Specs

Product Weight 12.98 pounds
Dimensions 21.75 inches by 19.3 inches by 9.1 inches

User Experience

Excellent travel stroller for when our baby was younger, as it was compact and easily fit into overhead bins during flights. The bottom basket could be a bit problematic, as it tended to drag on the ground when carrying anything heavy. However, maneuverability and compatibility with our car seat made it a great choice during those early months, but as our child grew into a toddler, we needed a more durable option due to strap and brake issues.

Chicco Liteway Stroller

Best Lightweight Stroller for Airport Transportation

If you need an easy-to-use model but aren’t necessarily in the market for a compact fold, this one is worth looking at. Although it quickly folds into a manageable size, it’s not suitable for overhead compartments in airplanes and should be gate checked.

This stroller has many extra features. A large undercarriage storage area allows plenty of room to stash your belongings. There are also cup holders and a sunshade to shield your child from UV rays and glare.

Double wheels at the back give this stroller better maneuverability. The seat reclines for naps while you’re on the go.

What We Like

Extra Handle Height

Many lightweight options can be on the petite size. This stroller is a good choice if you or your partner are tall. The extra height through the handles makes for a more pleasant experience.

However, the extra height adds more length to the folded unit, so keep that in mind if you need something compact for storage.

Designed for Your Child’s Comfort

We love that this model has comfort at the forefront of its design. The seat is well padded, as are the shoulder straps. You can also recline the seat to four preset positions to keep your child comfortable even while napping.

The included canopy can be positioned to protect your child from too much sun. There’s also a peek-a-boo window in the sunshade, so you can easily see your little one, even when the canopy is in use. An adjustable foot and leg rest supports your child’s lower half for added relaxation.

Locking Features and Convenient Carry Handle

An automatic storage lock makes traveling with this stroller easier. Once it’s folded, the lock snaps into place. This keeps it from unfolding unexpectedly and causing problems.

The rear-wheel suspension and front-locking wheels make this model convenient to maneuver. There’s also a carry handle to use when it’s folded.

What We Don't Like

This Is a Robust Stroller

This stroller is designed for regular and extended use. It’s meant to be both comfortable and sturdy. As a result, it’s not as lightweight as some of the other options on the market.

If you’re looking for an ultralight model that’s easy to slip into a bag, consider other models we’ve featured.

Personal Perspective

From the moment I unboxed this stroller, I could tell it was well-built and easy to assemble. However, I found it to be heavier and bulkier than I had initially expected for a compact stroller. On the bright side, the seat is well-padded and comfortable for my baby, and the stroller maneuvers well with solid handles. Folding is a breeze with its two-step function, but the canopy attachment tends to come off easily when adjusting. Despite these minor drawbacks, I am quite happy with this stroller overall.

Joovy Caboose Stroller

Best Lightweight Sit and Stand Stroller

This stroller from Joovy can hold more than one child at a time. It’s a good option if you have an older toddler and a younger baby. It’s a suitable alternative when you don’t want the hassle of a double stroller.

Featuring dual wheels in the front and single wheels in the back, it’s sturdy and can support up to 90 pounds.

The unique platform at the back allows an older child to stand between the handle and the stroller while you push it, or there’s a seat they can sit on facing you if their legs get tired. This is helpful during longer outings when your child needs a break. It does have a safety harness for the back rider as well.

The front portion can also be used as a sitting space. A stroller organizer and a universal car seat adapter are included with this unit.

What We Like

Tons of Versatility

We love the many ways we can use this stroller. The back standing portion can support a sitting or standing child. It can also be a place to keep a shopping or diaper bag when there’s only one child with you.

The included universal car seat adapter allows you to use this unit with a newborn car seat. The canopy is extra large, and you can position it to protect both riders at one time.

Extended Use

This isn’t a model your child will quickly outgrow. It can be an investment piece that will serve you from their newborn days well into childhood.

Warranty Included

Strollers can experience a lot of unexpected damage or not suit your needs as well as you expect them to. Fortunately, this model comes with a two-year warranty, and your satisfaction is guaranteed. This is a longer warranty than other companies with “sit and stand” models offer.

Plenty of Safety Features

Attention has been given to making this a safe ride for all children involved. This option offers a five-point harness for the child sitting in the stroller. For the child who’s standing, there are sidebars to hold onto.

The rear seat features a three-point harness for your older child to use while sitting. If you’re looking for something more substantial, you can purchase an additional rear seat separately. It converts the back bench seat into a full-size reclining seat that doesn’t interfere with the stroller’s fold.

What We Don't Like

It’s Not as Compact as Other Strollers

This is a wonderful choice if you’re looking for a lightweight stroller that can work for two children. It doesn’t offer the most compact fold, though. If you need a stroller that will work in overhead compartments or tight storage spaces, you may need to look elsewhere.

Product Specs

Product Weight 22 pounds

Community Feedback

Bought this Joovy stroller for my 2.5-year-old and 8-month-old, and I've been impressed with its performance and versatility. It's lightweight and easy to maneuver, even on cobblestone streets and in tight spaces like public transportation. The adjustable canopy is a great feature, and the additional caboose rear seat met our needs perfectly. The under carriage basket isn't the largest, but it's sufficient for smaller items. The handlebar organizer was a nice bonus, and the stroller handled well on hilly streets.

How to Choose a Lightweight Stroller

Be Aware

Many lightweight stroller models are not designed for young babies. They may not have the head and neck support your child needs or a harness to provide a safe fit. Always check and follow the guidelines for age and weight to keep your little one safe (1).

While hunting for your child’s new ride, there are some important considerations to remember.

Where Will You Use It?

Do you want to use the stroller on outdoor trails or at the airport?

Knowing where you’ll be using it will influence which type of wheels you need. It will also impact the size of the collapsed stroller and how comfortable it should be.

Will This Be Your Only Stroller?

Factor in whether you need a lightweight stroller for occasional or daily use. It’s nice to have more than one stroller, especially considering how easy it is to fold lightweight versions.

What Features Are the Most Important?

Are you looking for an ultralight model, regardless of how comfortable it is? Or are you willing to sacrifice some lightness for added versatility or comfort?

Have a priority order in mind before you start shopping to make the experience easier.

Consider Your Budget

The price range for strollers is wide, which can make the buying decision challenging. To combat this, know what you plan to spend ahead of time. This will help narrow down the field of choices.

Reasons to Choose a Lightweight Stroller

Lightweight strollers are designed for an on-the-go lifestyle.

They fold down to be smaller than regular strollers, and their frames are made from lightweight materials. They are a good solution for traveling, like at airports, or for transport in packed trunks, due to their compact design.

However, many lightweight stroller models are not best for everyday use. To cut down on weight, they tend to lack padding and other comfort features.

Different Types of Strollers

Confused by the varieties, differences, and similarities? We’ve grouped the strollers into the below categories to make it easier for you.

Umbrella Strollers

Umbrella strollers are incredibly lightweight. They collapse into an umbrella-like shape instead of folding in half the way some larger models do. Although ideal for traveling, they can be less comfortable for regular use or longer rides.

Featuring small wheels, they tend to do best on smooth surfaces, whether they’re single- or double-wheeled. These aren’t likely to have additional shock absorption or other features designed to increase comfort. As a result, your child will feel every bump.

Pros

  • Great for travel on smooth surfaces.
  • Lightweight and collapse small for easy portability.
  • Affordable, often costing less than $40.

Cons

  • There are better options for comfort.
  • Not as sturdy as other strollers.

Convertible Strollers

These models can be used in different configurations. They allow your child to face you or face outward. Some convertible strollers offer a sit-or-stand position for older children while a younger child sits in the stroller seat.

Convertible strollers are a great choice if you have multiple children and want to keep the same stroller around for a few years. Folding options are either like the classic umbrella variety or larger counterparts.

Pros

Cons

  • Likely has a larger footprint than the umbrella models.

Three-Wheeled Strollers

Most three-wheeled strollers feature air-filled tires. The wheels are larger in diameter and make the strollers appropriate for off-roading and athletic ventures. This wheel design makes the strollers easy to steer, and its shape makes turning more manageable.

Expect them to be heavier than other lightweight options. Many traditional three-wheel strollers weigh close to 30 pounds. This is due to the sturdy frame and extra features in place to absorb shock and impact.

Pros

  • Easy to maneuver.
  • Great for longer periods of use.
  • Shock-absorbing for off-road and active use.

Cons

  • Not as lightweight or compact as other strollers.

Can I Use a Travel Stroller For Everyday Use?

Yes, many travel strollers are designed for everyday use, offering a good balance between comfort, convenience, and durability. Check for features like reclining seats and storage baskets to ensure it meets your daily needs.

What are the Disadvantages of an Umbrella Stroller?
