Activities to Do With Insect Coloring Pages
Turn your coloring session into a full day of education and creativity. Here are a few fun ways to use these printables.
Create a Garden Scavenger Hunt
Print out several different insect pages and have your kids color them in. Once they are finished, head out to the backyard or a local park. Challenge your children to find the real-life versions of the bugs they colored. This is a fantastic way to combine art with outdoor physical activity.
Make 3D Paper Insects
After coloring, carefully cut out the insects. You can glue them onto cardstock for extra durability. Attach a popsicle stick to the back to create puppets, or bend the legs of the spiders and beetles to make them stand up on a table. This adds a fun, three-dimensional element to their artwork.
Design Bug Fact Cards
Turn the coloring pages into educational trading cards. Have your child color the image, then cut it out and paste it onto a larger index card. On the back, help them write three cool facts about that specific insect. They can research what the bug eats, where it lives, and how many legs it has.
Create Window Suncatchers
For a beautiful stained-glass effect, color the pages using markers or crayons. Once done, lightly rub the back of the paper with a cotton ball dipped in vegetable oil. The oil makes the paper translucent. Tape the finished masterpiece to a sunny window and watch the light shine through the wings of the butterflies and dragonflies.
Assemble a Nature Diorama
Use an old shoebox to create a habitat for the insects. Kids can paint the inside of the box green and blue to look like grass and sky. Paste the colored and cut-out insects onto the background or hang flying insects, like dragonflies, from the top of the box using string.
